I'm hoping everyone had a lovely Mothers Day!! We went out to dinner and I had a yummy salad loaded full of strawberries, oranges, grapes, candied pecans, grilled chicken, onions, tons of greens tossed in a raspberry vineagrette and of course, if you know me at all....I added ranch dressing, too!!! lol :)
In my neck of the woods (as with many others across the U.S.) it's spring clean-up for the community. I'm also trying to coordinate my first big garage sale, too....so, I didn't have much to offer the curb this year!! I did see some chairs down the road that I really wanted to take home but as luck would have it and my pokey old husband...they are now in someone elses home....I'm still mad at him!! :)
And if that wasn't enough pain....lol....I was trying to get my gigungus sheperds pole down off the garage wall and it decided to not come down alone....it brought our weedeater with it and yes....you guessed it...it fell right on my foot....my foot that was in flip-flops and about 8 or 9 feet below!! After a few unmentionable words, I applied ice the rest of the night and while I don't think it's broke, it sure is very swollen, bruised and hard to walk on!!
I was just wondering to myself....if we are of the junking tendency and like to make things out of others cast-offs....exactly what is it that we are willing to part with or consider "un-useable" and put out for our own spring clean-up pile?? I'd love to hear from you on this subject....it has my curiosity peaked!!
Have a good day......Gigi ; }
A Merry Christmas to you!

Sorry about your foot Gigi, I feel your pain, as I ruptured a calf tendon on Friday just walking up a small hill.
ReplyDeleteWhat is truly junk to a junker? That's a great question. I consider little pieces of wood that are less than 1" or an odd shape to be trash. but they go in a pile for awhile before being thrown out, just in case;)
Furniture made of pressboard, after it's had it's day.

Plastic stuff, it's the curse of our generation.
I'm sure there is more, but I can't think of .
Can't wait to see what other's have to say.
This is a great post. Because it does make you think. Before I read this, I was throwing away a broken worn out hose. No character, only about 15 years old. Just had been left out in the elements etc. I claim to save junk but into the trash it went. I did consider briefly saving it and cutting it up thinking what I could repurpose it into but thought better of it because of space and practicality. What else? Anything broken beyond repair but even then I may salvage parts. I give plenty to Goodwill and salvation army--things that just aren't my taste. Stained/worn out clothing goes to rags or garbage. I feel strongly that only decent items should be donated. Just because someone shops thrift stores they don't want stains. Although even old clothing makes me pause because I've seen t shirts stripped out and crocheted into items. Tried it once but wasn't heading in the right direction and I "scrapped" the project!
ReplyDeleteAnxious to hear what others have to say.
Okay - I am the queen of fabric scraps...even the 1" variety. LOL However, in my defense, I clean out the "scrap baskets" twice a year. Well, maybe I just minimize down to one. HA! I part out most broken stuff but I too donate quiet a bit - clothing mostly! However, my junk piles tend to grow quiet rapidly, and when I do throw stuff, I regret it about 3 days later when I think of something I could have made! LOL
ReplyDeleteI hope your foot feels better!!!!!!!!!!!!
